Amazon.com Clement C. Moore's beloved poem about Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve has been illustrated by hundreds of artists since its first publication in 1823. Two collectors of antique children's books have selected a variety of these charming pictures from Arthur Rackham, Jessie Willcox Smith, Thomas Nast, and other renowned children's illustrators of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the images are from versions of the poem; a few are from antique postcards or magazines. Source notes for all the illustrations are included. Santa is dressed differently by each artist, but he is always "chubby and plump--a right jolly old elf" who brings joy to all good little girls and boys. This attractive edition of The Night Before Christmas will be enjoyed most by collectors of children's books or lovers of things Victorian. Youngsters who are already familiar with the poem will delight in comparing the different old-fashioned Santas and the children of long ago "nestled all snug in their beds." A charming holiday gift to leave under the tree on Christmas Eve for anyone who believes in the magic of Santa Claus. (Ages 5 to adult) --Marcie Bovetz

Hooray for the Christmas Corgi! Dezember 8, 2005 BeatleBangs1964 (United States) 0 aus 4 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
Tasha Tudor's gentle illustrations breathe new life and fresh fun into this delightful, timeless rhymed classic. The children, adults and the pets alike participate in the joy of Christmas; the corgi the children dance with is especially delightful. The little corgi has an almost knowing expression in her eyes; she appears to be caught up into the wonder of the holiday season. The corgi with her playful demeanor is the most appealing character. This timeless classic will be read with delight time and again. The holiday spirit is something to be shared year-round, and this delightful presentation of the classic will certainly be welcomed.
Howard Finster's Folksy View of "The Night Before Christmas" April 6, 2000 4 aus 4 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
Howard Finster illustrates Clement Moore's classic "The Night Before Christmas" in vivid, twentieth century folk art tradition. Finster's unique and imaginative representation combines a meld of his vision of God's creation, angels, with man's creation, Santa Claus. Additionally, the Reverend Finster renders his optimistic, spiritual view of the opportunity the Christmas season presents for mankind to experience good. Howard Finster helps readers escape the over-commercialism that had crept into this delightful holiday season.
Beautiful rendition of this classic. Februar 1, 2000 2 aus 2 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
A gloriously illustrated version of the classic, The Night Before Christmas. Anyone wanting to purchase another copy of this title or even a family copy to read on Christmas Eve would not go wrong to pick up Whatley's illustrated copy. A beautiful rendition sure to become a favorite.
A lovely book Januar 22, 2000 kfk1959@aol.com (Redford, Michigan USA) Jan Brett does a great job with an old favorite. I gave this book 4 stars and not 5 because I feel that there are just too many versions of this book as it is. I feel that Ms. Bretts talents could be used on other, more originals works. Still it is a beautiful book.
